Most sponsorship deals are a logo on a banner and a thank you post once it's over. We've never seen the point in that kind of sponsorship. If we're putting the Printlogik name behind something, it has to hold up to actual scrutiny, and that's why we said yes almost immediately when Emma Barker asked us to back her run at Miss Pageant Queen UK 2026.
Emma is autistic. She's completing a PhD at the University of Derby, having finished her Master's there first. She's spent years turning a diagnosis most people would keep quiet into public advocacy instead, campaigning for better adult mental health support and clearer routes into academia for neurodivergent people. Her "What Happens After Diagnosis?" work looks at exactly the gap the name suggests. What happens to an autistic adult once the appointment ends and the paperwork's filed. Usually, not much. She's made that case in person at more than 50 charity events across the East Midlands.
Pageantry has a reputation problem, and it's mostly earned. Watching what Emma does with it made the actual mechanism obvious though: it's a stage and a title, and both come with attention. What she does with the attention is the interesting part.
"Pageantry gets written off as a beauty contest," Emma told us. "For me it's never been that. It's a microphone."
What strikes us most about Emma isn't the Master's or the PhD, though both are hard enough on their own. It's that she does all of it in public. A diagnosis like hers is hard enough to sit with privately. She's turned hers into more than fifty charity appearances and a run at a national title instead, and she tells the same hard truth at each one: that autistic adults get left without support the moment the appointment ends. That's not confidence for the cameras. That's just who she is, and it's a genuinely rare thing to watch someone do well.
I'll be honest, I had my own assumptions about pageantry before this. Watching what Emma's actually doing with the platform changed my mind, and that's not a small thing to admit in print. But it's true, and it's exactly the kind of thing we'd want a business we back to be able to say honestly.
Emma represents Derbyshire at the Miss Pageant Queen UK 2026 Grand Final on 21 November, competing against regional finalists from across the country for the national title. Whatever happens on the night, the sponsorship carries on after it, because the advocacy she's doing doesn't stop when the final does.
